Troodos Geopark Visitors Centre

Amiantos

Located in the old mine of Amiantos

The Troodos Geopark Visitors' Centre is located in the old mine of Amiantos, a place of historical value that now hosts a beautiful Botanical Garden with information about the flora of the area, Bank of Seeds endemic species, but also plenty of evidence for the previous action of the Mine, its life, its people.

At the entrance of the building, we are welcomed by an amazing geological garden, which represents the ophiolite of Troodos. In this garden we may see rocks from the entire Troodos sequence, in a series with which they are found in real conditions. We may also see an outdoor classroom, which is mainly used by students for interactive lessons. Inside, there are beautiful exhibits indicative of the geological importance of Troodos, a model representation of important sites of geological interest (faults, mines, nature trails, etc.), scientific information tables, as well as a projection room of the documentary of the Geopark.

The Centre also hosts a separate hall dedicated to the Asbestos and Chromium Mines, a representation of an ancient copper-fired kiln and a representation of a sulfur ore mining gallery of the last century. At the exit there is a geoproducts store, from which you can buy artifacts and useful materials from the land of Troodos as well as the eco-tourist guide and documentary of the Geopark.
