Mallouras Archaeological Site

Athienou

From the Geometric to the Roman Period

Since 1990, archaeological excavations have been conducted at the site "Malloura", located about 6 kilometres southwest of Athienou, by an American expedition (Athienou Archaeological Project) under the supervision of Dr Michalis K.Toumazou who originates from Athienou, professor of Archaeology at the University of Davidson in North Carolina, USA. The work of the archaeological expedition is an interdisciplinary program, which focuses on the archaeological site of Athienou – Malloura and the surrounding valley in south-central Cyprus.To date, a rural sanctuary, graves carved into a rock and a settlement dating from the Geometric to the Roman period have been identified in the area. Venetian ruins were also found.
