Arsos

The church was built in the 11th century and functioned as a monastery during the Byzantine and Medieval years. Relevant references to both the church of Apostle Philip and the once glorified Monastery of  Virgin Mary can be found in six Parisian Codes that belonged to our church and are located in the National Library of Paris. From these manuscript books we derive valuable information about this monastery and the church of Apostle Philip , for priests, monks and readers, but also about another one out of the 12 churches of the village, the church of Agioi Andronikos and Athanasia, of which only the small pilgrimage stands nowadays, on the homonymous road.
